Managing Director, Secondaries Deal Origination
Position Description
- Originate secondary LP positions in U.S. lower middle-market private credit and private equity funds.
- Originate secondary direct loans and to a lesser extent private equity positions in U.S. lower middle-market companies which can include continuation vehicles.
- Originate private equity-backed and independent sponsor-backed opportunities in a lead capacity through private credit and structured equity investments in predominantly U.S based businesses that have between $5 and $50 million in EBITDA.
- Leverage established private equity sponsor relationships and partner with our senior team to further broaden the Firm’s private equity and independent sponsor relationships in the U.S.
- Develop and further institutionalize private equity relationships through monitoring and reporting material fundraising, investment, and portfolio activities.
- Cultivate and broaden relationships with deal flow origination sources across core sub-verticals.
- Add value to other aspects of Star Mountain’s overall business as an aligned partner assisting in building a leading private investment business.
- Assist with junior team recruiting, training, and development.
Required Qualifications:
- 15+ years of LMM/Middle market relevant experience in a lead capacity including cash-flow lending / investing to U.S. companies with between $5 to $50 million of EBITDA. Completion of formal credit training program preferred.
- Demonstrated breadth of experience in originating and leading the underwriting and execution of sponsored/non-sponsored leveraged finance transactions across industries.
- Strong command of current market conditions and competitive landscape.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to take on material responsibility and accountability for transaction underwriting, asset management and credit outcomes.
- Experience negotiating loan agreements, Agreement Among Lenders and equity-related documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft product suite and CRM platform.
- Team player with an exemplary work ethic and great people skills.
- Willingness to travel nationwide as needed for origination-related activities, new investment due diligence, and portfolio company board meetings. We anticipate travel could be up to [75%] domestic.

- Location: Flexible. Ideal candidate willing to relocate and be based in our Tampa, Florida office.

Compensation:
The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and other economics. Total compensation may vary by role, location, department, and individualm performance.
