The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research took place in Central Park on Saturday, October 14th, 2017

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Star Mountain Capital, LLC (“Star Mountain”), a specialized investment manager focused exclusively on the large and undeserved U.S. lower middle-market, is pleased to announce that it has been named the #1 fundraising team for the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research in New York City for the second year in a row. Also, a member of the Star Mountain team, Eliza van Heerdan, had the fastest time among the women in the run. 100% of the proceeds from the run go directly to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for Cancer Research.

“I know cancer has and will continue to affect us all until we find a cure, so I walk to make a difference and to continue to raise awareness and support to fight this horrible disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people per year,” said Brett Hickey, Founder & CEO of Star Mountain Capital and Founder of the Star Mountain Charitable Foundation. “Culture is a core part of the DNA at Star Mountain and I am proud that we have been able to help make a difference and inspire others.”

“Continued support from Star Mountain has been critical to our work in the development of novel therapies for leukemias and lymphomas. This work has already changed the lives of many patients,” said Dr. Renier J. Brentjens, Medical Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event where people get together to raise money for cancer research in memory of Terry Fox. Today there are Terry Fox runs in more than 20 countries around the world and the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $715 million for cancer research.

Star Mountain has been a supporter of the Terry Fox Run for many years as part of its broader efforts to help raise money and awareness for cancer prevention and treatment. Star Mountain Capital CEO, Brett Hickey, was formerly on the board of the Canadian Association of New York (CANY) which helps organize the Terry Fox event on a volunteer basis. CANY is a member-run organization and the focal point for the Canadian Community in the New York City area.

“The participation, involvement and fund-raising of the Star Mountain Capital team has become a large part of the success of the run. Brett’s dedication and commitment to the cause is a shining example of his leadership.” said Ken Ottenbreit, the founder of the Terry Fox Run in New York City and the past President of the Canadian Association of New York.

Thank you to all the support and donations from our families and friends who made the 2017 Terry Fox Run an incredible day. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
